Such an incredibly beautiful, ornate and peaceful church. The spirit of the Lord was definitely moving in there! We enjoyed a mass celebrated by Fr. Ian and then were treated by an explanation of the relics housed inside this church.
Relic means remains.
There are three types of relics: any part of the saint's body, something that belonged to a saint, or a piece of cloth material that touched the saint.
There are over 5000 relics in St. Anthony's Chapel, second only to Vatican City. https://saintanthonyschapel.org/
Fr. Mollinger collected relics and brought them to St.Anthony's. When he passed away in 1892, the maintenance of the chapel became the responsibility of the people of Pittsburgh.
This chapel does not belong to any parish. The community relies on the generosity of those who visit and are able to make a donation to help maintain the chapel.
After hearing about the relics, Lisa introduced Jim Martin to talk to us about living life with death in mind. We have a choice to serve or not to serve. However, the moment we die, that free will is over. Our actions speak louder than our words. God is our creator. He is our God. He loves us unconditionally and we are obligated to love Him back.
